- 1891-Called to the bar at University College London and returns to India
- 1893-Goes to South Africa and stays for 21 years
- 1894-Helps finf the naitonal Indian Congress to fight discrimination in South Africa
- 1900-Founds the Natal India Ambulance Corps and volunteers as a stretch-bearer in the Boer war
- 1906-Employs his form of nonviolent protests for the first time in Johannesburg
- 1915-Returns to India
- 1917-Using nonviolent protests, Gandhi wins concessions from British landlords for Chamaran Farmers
- 1919-After Jalianwala Bagh massacre, Gandhi demands a nonviolent approach from Indians in their protests
- 1920-Becomes leader of the political Indian National Congress
- 1922-Imprisoned for sedition, serves 2 years
- 1930-Indian Natinal Congress declares the Independence of India
- 1942Call for the British to 'Quit India' in a speech in Mumbai - arrested an imprisoned for almost 2 years
- 1947-India officialy becomes an independent country
- 1948-Gandhi is assisinated by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist
